Manage your own web site
A content management system is exactly what it sounds like, it will allow you to be able to control all the content of your website without having to buy expensive software that the developer need.
Rather it places a management system directly on your own host that you can then access by logging into the administration section.
There are many different CMS' available, the one I use is Wordpress, it is a powerful management system that allows the editing and creation of pages, posts, images, as well as control over users, comments, and authors, amongst many other things.
Wordpress ships with a default theme, you can find other free themes on the internet, or even buy themes, or you can have me design a theme specifically for your business and needs. Wordpress comes with the ability for addons, giving you more power, and control over the way your site displays.
I would only recommend a CMS if you are wanting to manage and change content on a regular basis, and want to do all of this separate of your designer, of course it can be prone to problems at times, if something is changed or a mistake is made that shouldn't have been, you may need to call in your designer for help.
